Whitney M. Young, Jr. was a tireless civil rights leader who meshed the tenets of Civil Rights activism with the practices of social work. On numerous occasions, Young conferred with Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon; testified before Congress and appealed to the giants of industry on behalf of the National Urban League constituents.
Whitney Young’s agenda for Black America and many of the programs he initiated remain to be completed by his successors.
