Christiana Pinkston Betts (center) was awarded the Jocelyn P. Goss Award for College. Christiana Pinkston Betts is an English Arts major and a United Negro College Fund Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow with a 3.77 grade point average. Aside from excelling in academics, Ms. Betts is also a community activist and supporter of environmental, equality and civil rights for all citizens of the commonwealth. She inspired a new generation of citizens to actively participate in the political process during her bid for an unexpired Hampton City Council seat in 2007. Ms. Betts is a moral and ethical person who balances her life with compassion, faith, and spirituality.
