Dr. James M. Reeves has devoted his life to educating others about the value of inclusion and promoting diversity, either by example or force of effort. He chaired the Music Department at Norfolk State University, mentored numerous students and faculty members, and helped the University secure funds for the Upward Bound Program for low income students. He was the first black to become a member of the Norfolk Symphony (now called the Virginia Symphony).
